Audio Copyright Questionnaire

1. Is all the music or material on your CD "all original" material?
That is, is the recording "your own" original music, lyrics, etc.?

Does anyone else share or have copyright to any of the tracks on your recording besides you? Example: Compilation recordings will often have multiple copyright holders.

Download our Customer's Copyright Certification and Audio Master Log Sheet. Complete both forms and include them with your master. If you have an official copyright registration from the US Copyright Office, please also include a copy of your registration with your master. Compilation recordings will require a certification for each song on the recording.

Note: Do you want to protect your copyright? For a small fee, you can register your music or material at the US Copyright Office - Library of Congress. This may be the only way you can prove your copyright ownership in court should someone else record or distribute your material without your permission.

2. Did you "sample" anyone else's music or material in your recording?
If so, do you have the license rights to use the music or material in your recording?

You must have permission from the original copyright owner. They will issue you a Master Use License and a Mechanical License that you must submit with your master along with our completed and signed Customer's Copyright Certification and Audio Master Log Sheet.

3. Are you "covering" someone else's songs or material on your recording?
If so, you will need to obtain a Mechanical License from the original publishing company, original writer or visit the Harry Fox Agency to obtain the license on many music and song recordings. They will issue you a Mechanical License that you must submit with your master along with our completed and signed Customer's Copyright Certification and Audio Master Log Sheet.
